The Discovery Project was born when Lauren and Zoe lived together during the COVID year we will never forget. Our conversations about life had been gradually getting deeper as we tried to navigate the prescribed ‘to-do-list’; marriage, babies, career ladders, the illusive seeming ‘purpose’ and relationships.
Then as for many, our lives intensified during 2020. Sharing stories, talking openly and slowly getting curious helped Lauren move through a period of depression and our shared dream to create spaces for women to talk openly became stronger.
We believe that by creating spaces for women to share their truths and explore their feelings, we practice and give ourselves permission to do this in other areas of our lives. We want to create a more empowered world where women can live from their heart and not from their conditioning.
Just before I was 30, I found myself going through a divorce and (after years of saving to get on it) moving off the property ladder. I had to have another look at the way I was going to live my life. I was hitting lows and not knowing which way to turn when I found connection through some amazing female-led sober and spiritual groups. It was the steady gentle support of these brilliant women that helped me to build my confidence back up and see my life as important.
Turning my 12 year's experience in management and events in the corporate world into women's discovery retreats is my calling; I truly believe that when women come together to share their stories, hold space for one another and make discoveries beautiful things happen. We have the power to lift each other up.
I want women to know that you don’t have to be in recovery or to hit a rock bottom to want to do things differently. You deserve to be excited about your life.
I want my history to demonstrate that you don’t have to have an extreme story to do something extreme.
My background has been one of privilege. I had a nice childhood, nice job, nice partner, nice life however, getting older I started to identify that the stories I was sold in my formative years didn’t quite add up. Money will buy you happiness, always be polite, work should be the focus of your life and so on...
This combined with the exceptional strong and supportive female friends I grew up with led me to co-create The Discovery Project; as in moving away from my 'bubble' I repeatedly encountered incredible women riddled with self doubt, excessive guilt, insecurity and the ‘not good enough complex’.
My goal with The Discovery Project is to help build and lift women up to show and empower them to a place of not just self-acceptance but self love and belief. You’re not just good enough, you are fucking great and doing an amazing job!
